Studio Lessons
Studio Lessons
Whether your interests are Classical, Jazz, Blues, Rock, or Roots music, traditional or experimental approaches, Studio Lessons are the primary resource for developing musical skills and understanding. We match you with the desired resource-- a great teacher-- and pair you up in an inspiring setting. And that's just the beginning.

Details and Logistics
The studio teacher serves as the student's primary contact with the Music Center and provides the most direct, consistent feedback for genuine growth. Center faculty are not only practicing professional musicians themselves, but also musicians who have the desire, the training, and the experience to cultivate music in others.
The duration and curriculum of the lesson will depend on the student's age, skill level, interests, and availability. Lessons are offered 7 days a week and scheduled to meet each student's needs.
Students generally meet with their instructor weekly for 30-, 45-, or 60-minute sessions. Most students study privately with their studio teacher, although we do have some students who share lessons with a partner. To accommodate work, family, or academic schedules, some students enrolled in our Adult/Open Division choose to meet bi-weekly with their instructor, usually for an hour each time.
We have created playful, though comfortable spaces for students and teachers to meet. Music Centers are equipped with either new upright studio or grand pianos, and a variety of other instruments and equipment, as needed. During lessons, teachers and students have access to our wi-fi networks, and thus, a vast array of relevant on-line resources, including audio and video recordings of performances, drills and exercises, and information about music and performance.
The Music Center studios themselves are spacious and filled with natural light. Many in the Little 5 Points Music Center overlook not only the gardens we've cultivated amidst towering oaks and pecan trees, but also the colorful L5P business district.. In Decatur, we have a more relaxed facility, which also features relatively large studios, many with windows from floor to ceiling. A front row view of trains headed to and from the CSX rail yard is one of the highlights for kids (and grown up kids).
Last but not least, the walls of studios and corridors, even the grounds, at both the Little 5 Points and Decatur Music Centers are populated with unique works by local and regional visual artists, recruited for exhibition by the Music Center's own curators for the purpose of inspiring students, faculty, and visitors alike.
