Inspiring Music and Supporting Other Artists

Arielle Angel's Since the opening of the Little 5 Points Music Center, we have provided exhibit space to local and regional visual artists.  With ten studios and rehearsal rooms, multiple lobbies and offices, and well-lit corridors and landings, the L5P Music Center offers an impressive amount of space for displaying art. Even the outdoor campus has become a gallery of sorts, with an abstract sun-inspired mural on the Front Porch, playful ornamentation with musical notation on the main building, and an 8-by-8-foot chess/checker board (with 2-to-4-foot chess pieces made from large PVC pipes).  The Decatur Music Center provides a second platform on the same scale, with even more rooms, cooridors, and outdoor spaces for exhibition.

In addition to supporting local artists through exhibition and sale of their work, the art inspires students, faculty, and visitors.  The art also encourages dialogue and collaboration across different art forms - a critical piece of a modern music education.

The Music Center collaborates with MINT Gallery (in the Old 4th Ward) , Susannah Darrow (currently employed by the Spruill Gallery in Dunwoody, GA), and Jeanette Turcotte (of Lookout Mountain Gallery in Chattanogga, TN)  to develop ongoing exhibits.  For info on showing art, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Sam Wethern Sam is a self-taught artist who began painting in 1991 after his wife, Jane, gave him a set of watercolors as a gift.  The dozens of pieces that adorn the walls of their Candler Park home attest that, over a decade later, Jane's gift continues to give. Several of Sam's large, vibrant canvases are currently on exhibit in the L5P and Decatur Music Centers.

Elizabeth D'Angelo Elizabeth is a versatile artist with experience in musical theatre, photography, sculpture, graphic design, and video art. She earned a BFA in Electronic Intermedia and a minor in Art History from the University of Florida. Since moving to Atlanta, she has focused most of her creative energy on painting. She is also active in art-related charity project/events.

Christina Loraine Christina Loraine's floral artwork seeks to point out the inherent dualism of flowers: the fragile bloom that traditionally brings to mind images of romance, beauty, and fragility opposite the plant's unseen ability to either heal or harm. Christina's work suggests that often times what is not visible is more powerful and meaningful than what lies on the surface.

Albino Mattioli Albino Mattioli is a native of Rome, Italy who moved to Atlanta in 1995 and lives a few block from Little 5 Points. He is currently traveling to Govardhan, India for a retreat to an ashram, and spent most of 2004-2005 sketching and painting in Madagascar. All of his pieces on exhibit at the Center reflect his interest in and love of children's art and his capacity to bring humor and joy to the canvas.

Ryan Nabulsi Photographer Ryan Nabulsi is a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine and the Savannah College of Art and Design.  He has participated in a variety of group shows in Atlanta, specifically at WonderRoot, UGA, and MINT Gallery.  A number of Ryan's fascinating Atlanta landscape pieces from his Polaroidland series are currently on exhibit at the Decatur Music Center.

Christie O'Grady Christie's resume as a painter includes shows and exhibits stretching from Los Angeles, through Santa Fe to Chattanooga and Atlanta.  Her art is an exploration of what she calls "the field," from which everything emerges."  Equally conceptual and technical, her work resonates beautifully in the L5P Music Center, where three recent works are currently on exhibit.
